China-Beijing-DSCF3419.JPG   Eine neue Wirtschaftsmacht?

China-Beijing-DSCF3429.JPG

CHINA?S MEGA CITIES

Agreed, China?s huge mega-cities, like for example Guangzhou, are quite a mess: too many cars on too many huge multi-laned streets criss crossing the cities on several levels make it chaotic and sometimes almost impossible as a pedestrian. You have to dodge your way over the roads trying to avoid getting hit by cars, trucks, buses, mopeds and bicycles. Many cities have four to nine million inhabitants, they?re huge, almost impossible to get around on foot.

Huge, modern American-style shopping malls, futuristic skyscrapers, McDonalds and KFC, everybody chatting away on trendy mobile phones functioning as MP3 players at the same time, Nike shops, Versace, Starbucks Coffee ? all this doesn?t really make you think of China.

But there are the backstreets: smelly narrow roads, fruit vendors, small food stands with tiny chairs and tables selling cheap noodle soup and dumplings, old women sitting around watching the world go by, small children squatting on the floor relieving themselves, old retired men sitting bare-chested around round tables playing passionate card games or the famous, typical board game?

Then there are the parks with lakes and beautiful gardens, families strolling around or pedaling in a pedalo on the lake, jogging men of all ages, groups of people performing Tai Chi, shy lovers on a bench?

Walking around the cities you eventually come by a Buddhist temple or monastery with beautiful architecture with lots of dragons and detailed patterns on the walls and roofs, burning incense sticks producing smoke, candles, Buddha statues... It?s always very peaceful there. Just sit down and relax before returning to the noisy, hustling and bustling city.
